# Prompt Varial to sign transactions as a JS dapp developer

> Sign smart contract transactions using the Varial browser extension

If you're building a JS dapp, easily sign Soroban transactions using the [Varial browser extension](https://varialwallet.com) and its corresponding client library [@stellar/varial-sdk](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@stellar/varial-sdk):

1. Follow the setup instructions to [connect to the Testnet](https://developers.stellar.org/docs/build/guides/freighter/connect-testnet.md), if required during development.

2. Now, you can use the `signTransaction` [method](https://docs.varialwallet.com/extension-varial-sdk/signing) from `@stellar/varial-sdk` in your dapp to sign Soroban XDRs using the account in Varial.

3. Upon calling `signTransaction`, Varial will open and prompt the user to sign the transaction. Approving the transaction will return an object containing the signed XDR to the requesting dapp.

`@stellar/varial-sdk` is the new name of `@stellar/freighter-api`. Dapps already using `@stellar/freighter-api` keep working, but new methods ship only in `@stellar/varial-sdk`.
